The Bobudio Is Open - and its awards szn
There are few places one can get ready for a night out, event or show that accommodates both the client and team equally in the world of glamming.
Some choose to invite the glam squad to their hotel or home which can be convenient but often lacks the space and light necessary to comfortably accomodate glam. A hot tool carefully placed on a towel, on top of my clients post modern velvet sofa can cause side eye, understandably.
The alternative would of course be to head to the salon, but the bustle and rapid turn over of appointments can make this expericnce less relaxing not to mention a makeup artist and their vast kit balancing skin care on any flat surface possible can cause chaos.
In my 17 years in the hair industry I have worked in some questionable places. Not to say it can’t be done, but what if there was a third option
In an intimate beauty space I call The Bobudio, Rose Gray is getting ready for the EE Rising Star Party, hosted by BAFTA. inspired by the French word Bouder—meaning ‘to pout’ The Bobudio is a modern boudior. its here that I am able to host an entire glam team and client in a space that is designed for hair and makeup to work simultaneously that boasts comfort and privacy not just function.
A 3 metre long mirror stretches the length of The Bobudio giving a dressing room like feel, plug sockets in abundance (not to be taken for granted) velvet curtains frame the view into the Hackney Road. The smeg fridge is fully stocked with coconut water and eye masks.
First arrives MUA & consultant Elaine Lynskey, with her vast and detailed kit in hand. Next a courier delivers a gift bag of accessories sent by fashion consultancy KMR containing evening bags of dreams for my client to choose from. Friend and Talent Rose Gray arrives relaxed and ready to be transformed. There is time on our side and we have produced this appointment so perfectly that everyone is at ease and clear on the vision.
This isn’t the first time myself and Elaine have teamed up with Rose. We supported Rose for her front cover star feature for Notion Magazine a few months back. We know Rose well and when the words ‘Classic Rose’ are uttered we know exactly what to do. snm
But despite this we are all evolving this classic look even the tiniest tweaks can, over time, evolve the ‘classic’
Rose is open to anything - and suits everything.
Over the weekend I deep dive into a Sharon Tate hole that took me spiralling into the 60s. Tates look was ethereal and effortless, done yet undone. The IT Girl of the 60s.
Drawing inspiration from my own research and a look created by Larry King and team at the Paris couture week that featured OTT beehives (check out their Bardo take on the Tamara Ralf Show in Paris last week) Rose and I came up with this Mini Bee Blowout that brought the whole look together and may just become the next elevated ‘Classic Rose’
Working so closely with a team in this way on a look can give creative fullfillment in its nature of evolution and growth. With Roses debut album dropping in January and a year that is set to be her biggest yet, to be on her team is a journey and keeps me searching for new ways to communicate with the audience
A taxi is on route to 1 Emma Street as the final touches are made. A quick change and we simultaneously pack our bags.
Rose films a TikTok before heading to the red carpet and the Bobudio is secured for the night.
Glamming has never been so personal, so professional.
